First and foremost, I want to thank the amazing group of contributing authors that have made this book such a success. When one stops for a moment to realize that many of the authors herein are responsible for changing/saving many lives had it not been for their work and passion. Period. Full stop. It is their zeal that has so inspired me to take on this project. My thanks to each of you for taking the time to craft the chapters that have become this book. I am fortunate to be able to call each of you my friend, and the world is blessed to have you. I hold a great and abiding respect for all of those working in global health in all of its varied forms. The world is in your debt.

I was fortunate to gain valuable help in organizing and managing this project with the amazing skill-set of Gracie Wang, who from the start displayed not only a keen sense of organization of the myriad of complexities that this project involved, but also demonstrated a wonderful balance of professionalism blended with an amazing editorial ability that benefitted all manuscripts herein. She’s also responsible for the subtitle. All of this is an incredible feat by an incredible person, tip-o’-the-hat to you, Gracie.

The support of my wife, Karen, is always invaluable, whether I am writing or not. And a special thanks to my son, Grayson, who volunteered to provide an ever-sharp review of many of the first drafts of what now appear herein. Thanks also to my daughter, Annika, who became quite good at tolerating my innumerable, longwinded, overly-animated discourses about the incredible work of the contributing authors. I thank and love you all.
